Answering your most asked questions

The idea of getting straight teeth in 6 months avg without any discomfort and trouble seems surreal. If you have just heard about Invisible Braces  then you must have a myriad of questions about the treatment, procedure, and results. We compiled some of the most common questions we get about the treatment and had our expert orthodontist answer them for you.

Ask an orthodontist

What are Invisible Braces and how do they work?

Invisible Braces, also known as clear aligners, are tight-fitting clear plastic mouthpieces that work as tools that adjust your teeth and gradually shift and position them to be straighter and more aligned.

An orthodontist takes 3D intraoral scans of your teeth and then uses software to plot how your teeth need to move. Based on their unique treatment plan, multiple sets of clear aligners are produced for each individual that work to shift your teeth into the desired position while you wear them. Over time, you exchange your old aligner for a new one, each one designed to progressively move your teeth. The number of braces you will need depends on your situation and the time your require.

Do they really show results in average of 6 months?

Yes, if you have followed the instructions and worn your Invisible Braces for a minimum of 22 hours daily, then you’ll see visible changes to your teeth and see them appear straighter. After your Invisible Braces treatment has been completed, you’re recommended to wear retainers for 2 years at night time only to maintain your teeth in their new position.

What is the treatment process?

A serious amount of thought, care, and expertise goes into your treatment planning, that’s why Smileneo connects you with licensed orthodontists who are specialists in teeth straightening and have essentially studied jaw movement. Before the treatment begins, your orthodontist creates the treatment plan which is based on multiple factors: the eruption pattern and position of the teeth, the shape of the face and jaw etc. This is done by first using the best 3D software to get 3D intraoral scans of your jaw. The scanners use a highly accurate 3D optical camera to capture a digital map of your smile, including your teeth and gum lines. This 3D image helps precisely map out your personalized treatment plan.

Once the treatment plan is developed, a software is used to create a 3D simulation of the jaw transformation. This shows the patient what the end result will be like and also helps your doctor see where the teeth will eventually end up and if they need to make any further alterations to our treatment plan. Once all aresatisfied with the final expected results, the clinic can move ahead with the production of the Invisible Braces.

Will I need to make any lifestyle changes during my Invisible Braces treatment?

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisible Braces are discreet and can be taken off anytime you want. Therefore, there are very mild lifestyle changes when opting for  clear braces. The only change you would need to make is timing your meals so you can ensure you have worn your braces for the recommended 22 hours, since you’re supposed to remove them every time you eat.

Are the Invisible Braces painful to wear?

Many people feel slight tooth soreness for a few days after wearing new aligners. This is normal. It is due to the mild pressure exerted on your teeth to move them. The pain is an indication that your aligners are working, gently moving your teeth into the desired position. The soreness goes away in just a few days. If you feel no pain, that’s okay too. Other than that, Invisible Braces are made of non-BPA and latex-free plastic that won't irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do.

Can I eat and drink anything with them?

You should remove your Invisible Braces before eating anything. Once you have taken off your braces, you can practically eat almost anything. Patients are advised to avoid hard candies and crunchy foods as your teeth are in a remodeling stage.

Just make sure you thoroughly brush your teeth after eating, it's essential to keep your teeth clean when wearing Invisible Braces.

Will wearing Invisible Braces affect my speech?

During the first few weeks of starting with your Invisible Braces, you may notice a slight lisp when speaking. This mostly happens because you’re not used to the braces. Gradually with time, once you get used to wearing the braces, your lisp gets better.
